Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. Her family and she went to Europe when she was only three years old. Summer was a student at British as well as American schools as her family lived overseas, she returned home to her hometown town of Pasadena just short of her birthday of 14. Summer was just five years old when she was captivated by acting and enrolled in her first acting class. Nine months later, Summer signed with an agent and an manager and began to follow her dream full-time. In her spare time she studies at a college and striving to complete her degree. She was among the stars of the future featured in Vanity Fair’s August 2008 cover issue, "Hollywood’s New Wave: Hollywood's Most Hot Kids in Hollywood". Bishil began her acting classes at the age of fourteen. In just one year Bishil was offered a contract by a manager or agency. Bishil's first performance was in the brief-lived Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks, followed by appearances in other children's shows.Bishil's breakthrough performance came as the lead actress in Alan Ball's film, Towelhead in 2007, an adaptation of the novel of the same title. Dana Stevens, a critic for Slate, said that Bishil's performance was "the most honest thing" in the film which, despite its best intentions appeared to be fake and mildly embarrassing. It was as if it was an extended PSA about inappropriate touching. Bob Strauss, a Los Angeles journalist at the newspaper, declared that Bishil "...is one of the top natural actors in recent times. In an article published on September 12, Los Angeles Times review, Gary Goldstein stated that Summer Bishil who is the "...newcomer performs an impressive and sassy performance as Jasira. "In 2009, she made Wayne Kramer's new project, Crossing Over, starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd, a portrayal which received some praise from Associated Press's Jay Reiner. She was cast as Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel never produced.
