Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11, 1982 was an American actress. Her debut in film was in Purple People Eater (1988) which earned her a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress under Nine Years Old". Birch became a household name as an infant, appearing in films like All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (92), Hocus Pocus (93), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). In 1999 she was nominated for a BAFTA nomination. In the following year, she played in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2003 for her performance as the lead character in Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. Her other films include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009), and Petunia (2012).After having off from acting, Birch began her career again in 2016 and has since appeared in numerous independent films. Birch played the role of Whisperer Mary/Gamma in the season 10 episode of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was the eldest child born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian and French-Canadian ancestry. "Thora" is her name. It derives from the Norse god Thor who is the god of thunder and lightning. If it were a boy, she would have had the full name. She is the younger sister of Kian Bolt Birch.Birch's parents are both former film actors who both participated in the film Deep Throat. They were not keen to support Thora due to their previous experience in the entertainment business. However, a babysitter noticed Thora mimicking commercials and got them to show Thora's photograph to agents. Birch was just four years old when she had her first big break when the babysitter took her to audition for an Quaker Oats advertisement.
