Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 until 11/01/2015) was a
Swedish actress well-known for her beauty and striking figure. Her performance
as Sylvia, in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) was a hit and made
her famous. Ekberg was born in Sweden on 29 September 1931. She was the sixth
child of eight. Anita was a fashion model during her teens. At the request of
her mother Ekberg entered Miss Malmo in 1950. She was crowned the Miss Sweden contest.
Despite not being fluent in English She travelled to the United States to
compete to take home the Miss Universe title for 1951. While it was an informal
pageant and the official one was formalized in 1952. Ekberg was not crowned the
Miss Universe pageant. However she was among the six finalist. Universal
Studios offered her the chance to sign a starlet contract. She was a Universal
starlet and took lessons in dramatization and elocution dancing and horseback
riding, fencing and elocution. She appeared briefly in The Mississippi Gambler
(1953), Abbott and Costello (as a woman on Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and
The Golden Blade (1953).
